Cellon Oak (Florida Champion Tree)

Richard Rathe, 2012 (HDR, Photography)

The Cellon Oak Park is located three miles south of La Crosse off highway 121 in rural Alachua County. For years I’ve driven the highways nearby and never knew this gem was there. The tree is magnificent in person. Well worth a trip!

Update 2025

You'll notice in the photo above there are new supports for the horizontal spider limb that is larger than most individual trees. At that time an upper branch had fallen during a wind storm and cracked this major appendage. The County took steps to shore it up and prevent it from dying. More than ten years later I am happy to report that the tree and limb both appear to be in good health!
