List of Drugs
Digitalis
indications
- control of ventricular response in a fib or a flutter
- conversion of supraventricular tachycardia to sinus rhythm
- conversion of a flutter to a fib
dosage
- loading dose of 0.5 to 0.75 mg (10-15 mics/kg) IV or PO
- additional 0.125 mg doses may be given every 8 hours
- usual maintenance dose 0.125 to 0.25 mg/day
- titrate based on blood levels
precautions
- digitalis toxicity is more frequent with hypokalemia, hypomagnesmia, or hypercalcia
- toxicity frequently causes premature beats, v tach, or PSVT with 2:1 block
anti-digoxin antibodies are treatment of choice for toxicity
